Halloween

Happy Halloween! This year was Blair's first year of Trick-or-Treating, so we wanted her to have a creative and fun costume that was easy to walk in. After throwing around a few ideas, we happened upon George Washington, inspired by the little tendrils of hair that curl out around her ears. I went straight to work trying to find something comfortable and found almost nothing on the internet. So I rolled up my sleeves, busted out my sewing kit and pulled together quite the little costume!

Silly ol' GW even had her trusty horse!
It was a rather dreary Halloween here in Tennessee, so we took advantage of the dry morning and dressed her up for some pictures before nap time. She was so excited by the little bags of Goldfish I put in her bucket to practice for the real deal!

She didn't wear the hat for very long, but it was SO cute!

I even pulled her hair into a tiny ponytail with GW's classic bow!

Look at that toothy little smile!
We went to Kingston Springs for a little Trick or Treat on Main Street event, which was just perfect for a first-timer. Several of the downtown businesses were handing out candy and the Library had cider for the adults. Everyone immediately recognized who she was, which was pretty validating for me, and she really got into it. By the end she was confidently walking up to people and holding out her little bucket with a smile - we couldn't get her to say "trick-or-treat" but she did say "thank you" and "see you!" after getting some candy. We did have a scary run-in with a man dressed in a shark costume, which was baffling, given her love of fish. Scary lady with a skeleton painted on her face? No problems. Man in shark costume? TERRIFYING. Keeping us on our toes, this one.

We had a few trick-or-treaters come to the house and Blair had a little trouble grasping the concept of giving candy away. Eventually, she got the hang of it and liked seeing everyone's costumes and was very helpful closing the door behind everyone haha.

Just for reference, here is the photo I used as inspiration. And of course, a little throwback to last year's costume, Baby Elvis! I'm not sure how we'll top GW next year, but I'm sure Mike will come up with plenty of fantastic ideas. Happy Halloween, everyone!
