As per tradition, Mike and I headed to Cincinnati at Easter to celebrate the Risen Lord Opening Day Weekend with the Reds. We have attended an Opening Day every year we've been together (Cincy 2009, DC 2010, DC 2011, Cincy 2012 and Cincy 2013) and our fifth consecutive year would be no different! The most miserable Opening Day was 2009 -- it was 30 degrees and sleeting in the Queen City. It was chilly this year, but the sun was shining!

This year Mike won the Opening Day Ticket Lottery online, so we had our tickets long before the game and we weren't required to pay a million dollars for them - woohoo! We bought 4 tickets and took Jeff and Tonya with us. The Reds are gearing up to host the All-Star Game in 2015, so we got to the park early to explore some of the million dollar cosmetic changes they made in the offseason.

In early March, Mike and I traveled to Asheville, North Carolina for Mike to attend a Southeast Regional ICMA conference. Mike had been a member of the International City/County Manager's Association (ICMA) for several years now and the organization has provided him with countless networking opportunities. He was even awarded a scholarship during graduate school to attend the annual conference in San Jose (and of course I tagged along!).

The SE Regional Conference coincided with the ICMA Young Professionals conference, which Mike attended 3 years ago. So much has changed since his last visit to Asheville -- he went from being a graduate student to a City Manager and he brought his wife along! It's funny, I'm the one that forced him paid for him to attend the conference when we were in grad school, I thought it was a great opportunity for him to meet city managers and other young people in his field. Little did I know that, at that conference, Mike would meet the Clifton City Manager and we would wind up here three years later. When push comes to shove, I guess I'm the one to blame for our new life in rural Tennessee! ;)
