Festive Fun At Gentry's Farm

Tuesday, October 18, 2016

It is our third year coming out to Gentry's Farm for some festive fall fun, and Blair was SO into the activities this year. Her first trip she was only nine months old, and last year was pretty chilly, but this year - she just had a blast. She went down every slide on the farm and played in the log cabin playhouse for over an hour until I had to drag her out of it as she screamed "nooooo! My playhouse!"

She wasn't quite feeling the annual truck-bed photo, but a few tears in the mix reflect her real-life struggle as a "nearly threenager." She was, however, very excited about the little tractors again this year and laughed her little ass off at the chickens, which is funny because she threw her paci at them the first year we visited! We went late in the morning on a Saturday when Tennessee was gearing up to play Alabama - suffice it to say, the place was practically empty.

There is a little wooden playset in the shape of a tractor with about 4 slides coming out of each side. Blair is obsessed with slides - she talks about the one at school all the time and it's always the first thing she runs to at the park. Needless to say, she was thrilled that Gentry's Farm has slides at the playset, in the barn maze, off the back of a shed... literally slides everywhere.

Under a big pavilion are several troughs filled with wheat or corn for the kiddies to do sensory play. Blair was fascinated by the water wheel and filled up the top on a continuous loop. It's so fun to watch her little mind at work, she was very interested in understanding why the wheel moved when the wheat fell through, and doing some serious problem solving when the funnel hole got clogged with a piece of hay.

The fun part about returning to the same place each year is that I can take pictures like these that show just how much she's grown! I love that we've established a family tradition here, despite all the other changes in our lives the past three years, and I hope we can continue to visit in the fall for many years to come!

Being "scary"

We made a quick stop at the little teepee village and she kept running in and out of them yelling "Peekaboo!" Mike and I got in on the fun and she giggled quite a bit at "hiding" from us.

By far, Blair's favorite part of Gentry's Farm is the log cabin playhouse. Because of the football game, Blair had the playhouse nearly all to herself for a good 20 minutes, and then shared with a few pop-ins for the next forty or so. I already mentioned the fit she threw when, after an hour, we told her it was time to go pick out a pumpkin and head home, but it was epic enough to be mentioned again. I straight up football-carried her across a field as she wailed for "my playhouse!" and made a scene. This is what motherhood is like, folks. Sometimes, it just isn't cute. If I hadn't been wrangling her like a calf, I'd have taken a picture so you don't think she's adorable and sweet alllll the time!

We're going to wait to carve any pumpkins until the week of Halloween, considering it's been 90* for an entire week and it's freaking October. At least the weather was absolutely gorgeous for our Gentry's Farm trip this year - I can't wait to see what kind of excitement next year brings!
