Seattle: Part One

Friday, October 16, 2015

Mike's annual city manager conference was in Seattle, Washington, this year, so Blair and I decided to tag along and make a family trip out of it! I figured it was a great opportunity for us to travel to the West Coast, especially since any plans for expanding our family in the future will limit our/my ability to make big plane trips like that. Mike booked his flight to arrive late Friday night in time for a Saturday conference session, while Blair and I would follow on Saturday morning.

My mom was able to schedule work trips to go from Nashville to Seattle the same time we were, but we weren't able to get on the same flight - so all three parties took different planes! We all met up in the Emerald City to breathe the fresh fall air and enjoy four days of walking around the city, exploring new things and sunshine. Yes, we went to Seattle for four days and saw almost zero clouds. Meanwhile, it rained all week in Tennessee!

Mike had morning and late afternoon sessions on Sunday so Mom and I took Blair to the famous Pike Place Market in the morning to see the (dead) "peesh!" Remember how I said her favorite animals, by far, are fish? Well, this trip only cemented that love because we saw dead fish, live fish and fake fish and she squealed with delight at every one! I was in awe of the amazingly beautiful (and super cheap!) flower bouquets and colorful displays of produce. The market is such a neat place - I don't know why anyone would need a grocery store!

$5 a bouquet! Seattle men have no excuses...

"Peesh!"
Watching a fryer make fresh little donuts

I could have lived in this fresh lavender booth.
Blair really wanted this awesome fish puzzle, but it was $60. NOPE.

So excited about chasing the pigeons.
"What's dat?" - It's a rat with wings, child.

The original Starbucks location!
We headed back to the hotel so Blair could take a nap and then Mike met up with us between sessions so we could do some family sight-seeing. We walked down to the Space Needle and took the elevator to the observation deck, 520-feet from the ground. The 360-degree view was gorgeous and it was such a beautiful day that we could see for miles! Mt. Rainier was clear behind the city and off in the distance we could see the rest of the Cascade Mountains. Blair was more interested in running circles around the deck, stomping on the compass markings and giving MeeMaw lots of hugs.

"Up dere?"
Eating MeeMaw's face off.

Being silly with Dada
Waiting in line for the elevator to the top!

These two and their beautiful blue eyes.

Bahaha, you're doing it wrong!

I think this is my favorite picture from the entire trip. SWOON.

We took Blair to Benihana for dinner (I know, I know, we did a chain rather than a local place) and she had a BLAST. I was nervous about bringing a toddler to a restaurant where the griddle is part of the table but she did great and loved watching the chef work his magic. She even used chopsticks to eat almost an entire bowl of rice and enjoyed "dip dip"-ing some shrimp, chicken and steak into the sauces.

Mesmerized by the smoking onion volcano haha

A tiny chopsticks professional!

Look at that little urban baby running down the sidewalk! She loved seeing all the shops and cars and there as even a doggie daycare center on our walk to the Convention Center that had windows facing the street. We stood and watched the "dahgs!" several times, much to Blair's delight.

Okay, I think that's about as many pictures as I can fit into one post without it being entirely overwhelming for any computer to load, so I'll do a second post about the rest of our Seattle adventures!
