It is our annual tradition to go on a surprise weekend trip for Mike's birthday and since Blair was too little for us to get away last year, I wanted this year to be extra special.
Mike's birthday week began with the All-Star game in Cincinnati, so we spent several days following the pomp and circumstance of the event and enjoying for familiar sights. His parents made us all some pretty awesome shirts and we wore them while we cheered on Todd Frazier in the Home Run Derby (Toms River, NJ, represent!).

On Friday, we packed up our bags and I gave Mike the news - our surprise trip was to Atlanta, where a Braves game and day at Kennesaw Mountain awaited us. The big twist, of course, was that my mom was flying into the city to babysit Blair while we enjoyed some (much needed) time to ourselves! We drove down and stopped at IKEA to have some fun before picking up MeeMaw at the airport. Blair had an absolute BLAST playing with all the tables and chair in the store, and of course, we couldn't leave without a few "essentials."

Saturday we did the Kennesaw Mountain Battlefield (in absolutely miserable heat) and watched the Braves get no-hit into the 7th inning by the Cubs. I felt bad that the Braves were playing such a terrible game, but Mike was thrilled - it was the longest no-hitter he'd ever seen and it was thrown by one of his favorites, Jon Lester. The Braves wound up losing, but we chalked it up as a win!

We made our way home on Sunday and celebrated the big 2-8 with some cake, which Blair was more than happy to stick her fingers in! Girlfriend threw the most intense tantrum I've ever seen when we made her get off the counter and wait until after dinner, but she was rewarded for her *ahem* patience with a tiny piece of her own.

Happy Birthday, Mike! Hope your 29th year is filled with nothing but the best!
