Eighteen Months

Saturday, July 25, 2015

Well, I still haven't mastered the skill of stopping time, so this month Blair turned one and a half years old. It has been 18 wonderful months with this little spitfire and I feel so lucky to have been able to spend those months at home with her. It's not always easy being a work-at-home mom with a toddler, but its an opportunity I won't likely have with our future babies, so I've been soaking up our afternoon snuggles, tussles over my computer and midday pool parties.

Attitude.
Weight: 23.4 pounds
Height: 30.75 inches
Nicknames: Stopped calling herself "Bea" and is back to baby. She will point to herself when we ask "where is Blair?"
Sleeping: 99% of the time she sleeps through the night. She goes to bed late, between 9:30 and 10, and wakes up around 8:30 - 9. I used to rock her to sleep, more for me than for her *sniffle,* but between 16 and 18 months she decided she didn't want that anymore and now she gets put in the crib awake and happily puts herself to sleep. Someone hold me.

She does still conk out on her own sometimes!

Eating: VEGETABLES ARE THE DEVIL. Even if I hide them in her pasta she will find them and avoid them. Fruit, however, is the best. Thank you, GoGo Squeeze, for making Fruit & Veggie blend pouches - it's the only way I can sneak them past her. She also really likes Belvita biscuits for breakfast and is getting pretty good at using her practice cup, rather than a straw cup, for water.

Big girl status!

Favorite Things
Brushing her hair - She gets mad when I do it, but she loves brushing her own hair (and her own teeth!)

Baby dolls - Blair's Gigi gave her a sweet little blonde baby doll and she is obsessed with it. She carries it around the house, gives it kisses and points out its eyes, nose and looks for its belly button. It is just the cutest thing!

Kisses for the baby!
Baby comes on walks with us too!

Twirling - Girlfriend still likes to boogie down and has mastered the art of twirling in circles as part of her dance routine.

Spin, spin!
The iPad - I know technology use can be a controversial topic among parents of toddlers, but I am unapologetic about letting her use the iPad. She has an incredible understanding of how it works and has developed the dexterity to play complicated matching and stacking games that translates to real-life stacking and matching. It's truly amazing the things she has learned!

The refrigerator - anytime anyone opens the fridge, she runs as fast as she can to open the cheese drawer, steal the tiny mayonnaise jar from the door shelf and run off with a bottle or two of Perrier. She's a tiny thief, but she will help us close the door if we ask nicely and give her high fives afterwards!

Least Favorite Things
Not being allowed to climb onto the kitchen table - because mama doesn't know how to have any fun.
Writing up a grocery list

Mommy's computer - She knows my work schedule and she basically plays independently for most of the morning, but that doesn't stop her from channeling her hatred for my typing machine when she's had enough and wants her mama. She does like the desktop photo though and points at my laptop and yells "BABY!" haha

Did I mention vegetables? BURN THEM ALL.

Notable Events: Finally graduated full-time to her big girl carseat even though she hadn't outgrown the limits of the infant seat yet #shortkidproblems

Milestones:
- So many new words! "Dahg" (dog), "Peesh" (fish), "Tat doo" (thank you), "bawl" (ball), "jup" (jump), "noh" (nose), "ayyyers" (ears), "iyyyues" (eyes), "twooo" (her only number and the way she counts everything) and "Nu nu nu!" (NO NO NO)
- She met her first pig during a petting zoo event at the local library. Her first reaction was a very confused "dahg?" and the two become fast friends!
- I was finally able to get her wispy little curls into her first pigtails. Who was the bald baby from just six months ago?

Hi, little piggy!

Baby's first pigtails!

Don't grow up too fast, sweet girl.
