Two and a Half

Monday, July 25, 2016

It's already July (whaat?!) and that means our little lady is two and a half years old! Her personality continues to blossom and she is just the sweetest, silliest thing. Blair is thoughtful and kind, strong-willed, loving, and an absolute joy to be around. We all have rough days, but honestly, she is wonderful and agreeable nine times out of ten. That tenth day though? Watch out. She probably gets that from her mama!

Weight: 27lbs 3oz
Height: 34in

Looking at birdies in the trees
"I hold it? Birdies?"
Counting the birds "One, two!"

Favorite Things
Peppa Pig & George
Y'all, the Peppa Pig Craze has infected the McClanahan household. Her undying love for that little British pig family and their assorted animal family friends is real. Her stuffed Peppa and "Chorge" come along with us on trips, sleep with her every night, get tucked under each arm in the car seat or the shopping cart... and I blew her mind recently with some Peppa t-shirts and a bathing suit. We have to start saving money for a trip to Peppa Pig World in England! (hahaha)

Reading books
On the potty, in the car, at bedtime, anytime, anywhere, this little bookworm is ready to read. We get a new, age-appropriate book every month from the Imagination Library and she lights up with excitement when we open it up. She loves Pete the Cat, Llama Llama, and especially loves Seek & Find books - she's actually really good at examining the pages to find everything!

Jumping
Seriously, half her day is spent jumping around the house, school, bed, everywhere. She sings the "Jump up and Down" song to herself and then makes us jump around too. Most of the pictures from our mini session in this post are her post-, pre- or during a jump. Let's hope that parlays into a Worlds trip in Irish dance someday - wink.

Straight up!

Least Favorite Things
Sharing the television
She often gets into spats with Mike over who gets to choose our evening programming. Mike prefers to watch baseball or the news, and Blair will exclaim "No circle-ball!" (her made-up word for baseball, I'm still not sure where it came from) or "No news!" Instead, she would much rather torture us watch Peppa Pig, Dora the Explorer, or Little Einsteins. She's pretty good at sharing in general, but that TV is a sticking point. I find myself breaking the two of them up, wondering why we don't have a second television yet!

It's summer - why is this leaf red?!

Adorably Mis-Pronounced Words
- "plip" (tv remote)
- "hally-cockter" (helicopter)
- "spiiiiiiiiiiine" (book spine, which she points out on every book she sees)
- "sloyd" (slide. she picked it up from Peppa Pig and says it with a British accent!)
- "plap" (clap)

Development
- Months of the Year, Days of the Week, all of the basic colors (red, blue, green, pink, orange, yellow, black, white)
- Numbers 1-11, almost all of the alphabet. Her favorite part of the alphabet is Q-Z.
- Moved up to the Preschool 2 classroom at school
- First official "school photos"
- Started her first ballet class (check out #dancedanceblair on Instagram - she is the cutest thing!)
- Can sing the entire songs of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star," "The Itsy Bitsy Spider," "Skinamarink," "Wheels on the Bus," "Open Shut Them," and a million little songs she makes up on her own.
- Graduated to her "big girl bed" with a side rail - it's not gone as smoothly as I thought, but she started climbing out of the crib and crashing to the floor...
- First solo road trip with Dada up to Kentucky
- Potty training is kind of at a standstill after a weeks-long struggle with refusing to eat, and the ensuing issues with her intestinal situation. It's also part of the reason she hasn't gained much weight recently, but she's also a ball of jumping, running energy, so that's part of it too. #parenthood
