Tour, Tour of the South

Well, the trip to Clifton was... not as successful as planned, but lovely nonetheless. We still don't have an official place to live, but we're working on it. We had a lovely road trip to Clifton, stopping over in Atlanta for a Braves game. We spent Thursday night in Clifton and then headed to Knoxville for my cousin Katie's wedding weekend. At the end of the week, we had driven over 1800 miles.

This post will be all about Clifton though, and I will share some of my photos and what I learned about small town life in our new hometown!

1. ATT does NOT have nationwide coverage. Having zero or one bar on roaming is not helpful and you cannot call anyone. How did people function without cell phones?!
1.a. I definitely experience withdrawal symptoms when my phone does not work. How many times did I try to log onto Facebook out of habit, knowing full well I didn't have any 3G or Internet access? 48391571234 Lots.

2. The Tennessee River is really pretty. Having lived in Louisville, I was expecting something similar to the sinister and muddy Ohio River... Not even close.

3. The town is really cute. It has no stoplights, not even the blinky yellow ones. There is one main drag ("Main Street," obviously), that leads straight to the river. There is a small grocery store (which, we've been told has an awesome butcher), a Dollar General, two banks, a couple of shops, some churches, and City Hall. The first time we drove through it, I slowly turned to look at Mike and said "Are you serious?!" but as we spend more time there, it really grew on me.

4. Clifton hosts the Horseshoe Bend River Music Festival every year. During the Festival, the town's population increases ten-fold, as people from all over the area descend on Clifton every September to enjoy music, food, and fireworks. This year's main event is Sammy Kershaw (remember him?! ahh '90's throwback!!). We are pretty freaking excited.

5. The people are so nice! In the short time that I spent there, people were welcoming, offering their homes to us if we didn't find a place to live right away, telling us how excited they are to have Mike there... it was lovely. The current city manager and his wife (Seth and Katie) offered their guest room to us for the night, and spent time taking us around town looking at homes that were secretly on the rental market. We went to dinner and spent the evening chatting with them and their friends, William and Lacey, who are also around our age. It was nice to meet young people who knew about the town and could tell me what it was like to live there!
