Meet me in St. Louis

Monday, April 18, 2016

We met up with some friends in St. Louis for a Reds v. Cardinals game on Saturday. It was Blair's first baseball game since our trip to Atlanta in 2014 and the first game that she could actually interact with. She absolutely loved it and was such a good little fan.

We drove up on Friday night and realized, juuust in the nick of time, that O'Fallon, Missouri and O'Fallon, Illinois are on two different sides of the city. I quickly re-booked our hotel to the one in Illinois (on "our" side of the city) and saved us extra hours in the car. Shoutout to the wonderful customer service at Hilton Garden Inn! Because we were a last-minute booking, we wound up in what's called the "whirlpool suite" which included an absolutely enormous bathtub that could legitimately fit four grown adults, if there were ever an occasion where that would be a thing. Blair was so excited about the tub, but it was after 11pm when we arrived so we rescheduled her usual evening bath to the next morning.

See?! It's HUUUUGE!

The morning of the game (and after we had all tried out the tub, of course), we got dressed in our Reds gear and went to The Egg & I for breakfast. It was an adorable little diner-style breakfast joint across from the hotel and the food was really good! Blair and I had waffles and eggs, while Mike chose the Eggs Benedict.

Blair loved her little Reds dress and showed her dolly all around the hotel room
She ate everything but half the eggs on that plate. Tank.

Sometimes she pulls us both together by the neck and says "Cheese!"
which means she wants us all to take a selfie!

Mike was in St. Louis for a game last summer, but I had only ever driven through the city, so we arrived downtown early to walk down and see the Arch. Blair kept pointing up at it and saying "See, mama! Auch!" and she loved wearing her little sunglasses. The weather was absolutely perfect - 80-degrees with a cool breeze and not a cloud in the sky.

Failed Family Arch Selfie.

"Mike, take our picture with the arch"
/eye-roll/

"Hold her up so I can get her in the shot!"
OMG MOM STAHP IT.

We met up with our friends, who have season tickets in a great spot along the third base line under an overhang. We were out of the sun the whole game and Blair even got her own seat, thanks to an under-attended section. In the group were two older girls, who kept Blair busy with peekaboo, lots of snacks, and giggles.

View from our seats!

"Get this phone outta my face, ma, I'm trying to watch the game!"

"CHEESE!"
Miss B really got into the cheers, learning to clap at the right time and shouting "Charge!" when they played the tune. She waved her pom-pom and yelled "yaaay!" during exciting plays, and especially loved all of the peanuts.

After the game we walked to Charlie Gitto's to eat dinner before we headed back to Tennessee. Blair was so worn out from all the excitement that she conked out in the Lillebaby as we walked out of the stadium and she slept all the way through dinner and part of the way home. It was great little weekend getaway and we really enjoyed seeing old friends and a Reds win!
