My name is Kaitlyn and I am a SLACKER

Saturday, December 15, 2012

Okay, first of all, I'm sure you can all guess what my New Year's Resolution will be for 2013. I'm embarrassed to even call this thing a blog, it's more like a testament to my inability to be consistent! Since I last posted, Hurricane Sandy tried to destroy the East Coast, the President was reelected, Thanksgiving happened, and now it's almost Christmas. Welcome to Bad Blogger's Anonymous. My name is Kaitlyn and I am a slacker! Self-deprecation aside, our professional lives have been incredibly busy these last 2 months.

Mike has been putting in around 60 hours a week at the City, remodeling City Hall to be ADA compliant -- why it wasn't in the first place is beyond me. Clifton has a plethora of elderly residents! I have been busy with work too, I went back to part-time because ad sales are definitely NOT my thing. I am proud to say that we have seen an impressive increase in paper sales over the last few months, but I'm not sure if that is due in part to my writing or the fact that we've had some hilariously crazy arrest stories on the front page. I've been working about thirty or so hours a week and I'm get to take off almost every Wednesday - It's a pretty awesome schedule!

Now that it's December and I completely skipped a Thanksgiving post (whoops!) I'll do a quick update. We went to Kentucky, ate deep fried turkey, and enjoyed hanging out with Mike's family. We were up there again a few weekends ago for RedsFest, where we got Todd Frazier (Toms River East champ turned Red) to sign my Restore the Shore t-shirt! He said it was the first one he's signed (points for creativity) and wished all of my family the best in getting back on their feet. Sandy spared most of my family from any major damage, but left them in the dark and cold for a few weeks. It still breaks my heart to see the pictures of Seaside Heights. So many memories!

Okay, now in my last post I alluded to, and left you all hanging (sorry!), some good news. Well, we're excited to announce that we will be moving into a new house in Clifton at the end of January! When I say This house is an improvement from our old house, there is almost no comparison. Much like the Jeffersons, the McClanahans are movin' on up!

There are many wonderful things about Our new place: a gorgeous master suite and 2 other bedrooms, a beautiful kitchen with a dishwasher (I almost cried when I saw it), a dining room, and INDOOR laundry room (ours is currently out the back door and around the corner - ugh). We will have one neighbor, the former Clifton city manager, his wife, and their beautiful brand new (like, she just had them a week ago) twins.

Our neighborhood is a "gated community," and I put that in quotes because there is no actual gate. The infrastructure was put in place for an automatic gate, but the gate itself was never installed. Classy! The neighborhood was also supposed to be filled with new construction homes, but the Mr. Potter of Clifton (yes, I've been watching Christmas movies) bought all of the surrounding lots and only a few houses were actually built. Including ours, the whole street only has about 6 homes.  Our house doesn't have a river view, but the street ends at the Tennessee River with a private boat launch. That means I can walk straight into the river if I felt compelled to, and when it's 200 degrees outside this summer, I just might!

All in all, it's a beautiful house; something Mike and I could never have imagined living in, especially in Virginia! Here's the major kicker: the rent is less than HALF of the price of our 1 bedroom apartment in Fairfax. Ask me in person what the rent is and you'll probably fall over. Let that sink in for a minute while you look at some of the photos.

Mikey loves the Kitchen... especially the dishwasher

Master bedroom (bad angle, it's actually pretty big, there's another window to the left)

Octagonal Master Bath. I literally screamed when we walked in there. 2 walk in closets, 2 vanities, a potty room, stand up shower (with 2 shower heads!) and a JACUZZI TUB.

Back deck gets lots of sun in the afternoon, and its the perfect size for a REAL grill (not our falling apart dollar store Smokey Joe!)

So that's the big news! We can't wait to move in and I can't wait to start decorating and settling in. My Pinterest boards are getting out of control with ideas! My favorite part (after the tub, obviously), is the bedroom directly across the hall from the Master that would be perfect for a little bambino. ;)

Okay, hopefully I'll do another post soon about Christmas in Clifton because this place is DECKED OUT. Rockefeller Center eat your heart out, I'm pretty sure that North Korean satellite can see the downtown lights from space.
